Sprint Cup, the top level NASCAR Series is taking a rare weekend off. The action and excitement will resume on July 27th with the Crown Royal Presents, the John Wayne Walding 400 at The Brickyard.

With just seven races left in the twenty-six race regular season, the return to the two and a half mile oval in Indianapolis is sure to provide fans with drivers focused on securing a win. That win will transform to their ticket into the esteemed 2014 ten-race NASCAR Chase.

Did you ever wonder why the name of this annual Indianapolis race is different every year? Crown Royal is committed to honoring heroes who set an example for us all to follow. NASCAR Race Mom has participated in two of the recent “Your Hero’s Name Here” promotions and can attest to the fact that this unique Crown Royal program is designed to offer a truly exclusive NASCAR experience to deserving American heroes.

This year’s winner John Wayne Walding was honored with naming rights of one of NASCAR’s biggest event. He will also receive a VIP at-track experience and even hand the trophy, bearing his name, to the race winner in Victory Lane!

So while you are enjoying the return of the forty-three Sprint Cup athletes to the @IMS in two weekends, please take just a moment to remember and thank John Wayne Walding and all the other men and women who sacrifice to keep our country free and great!

Crown Royal "Your Hero's Name Here" Finalist vote.

This year’s race naming rights winner is thirty-two years old and resides in Little Elm, Texas. He served in the United States Army for 12 years with seven of those years being in the 3rd Special Forces Group, completing tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

While overseas in 2008, Walding was involved in a fire fight during a mission to capture a high value target, during which he lost his lower right leg. After recovering from his injury, Walding was the first amputee to graduate Special Forces Sniper School.

He completed the 2009 Boston Marathon and Army 10 miler, utilizing a hand cycle, within a year of the accident. Some of Walding's awards and badges include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge. Walding was honored to be nominated by his brother, as he considers it humbling validation each time someone hears about what he's done for his country.

One of Walding's missions in life is to pass his torch on to the person behind him in an effort to help his fellow service men and women in the form of guidance. He helps former military members by employing them or providing direction to find their "North Star", what Walding describes as their meaning in life after active duty service. A big NASCAR fan, Walding has never had the opportunity to go to a race and looks forward to attending the "Crown Royal Presents the John Wayne Walding 400 at the Brickyard” later this month.
